During the midst of the Covid-19-chaos, the importation of steel from China to South Africa was suddenly put on hold.
After witnessing the dire state of the world and the economy, we decided to create something magnificent from the ashes. A couple of friends were pulled together in November 2020 to discuss possible solutions, and Haya Steel Merchants became the brainchild with a solid foundation of 40 years of industry experience to grow from.
The Company became an independent store in April 2021 – proudly sporting a space and a single machine of its own.
Since then, Haya Steel Merchants has experienced significant growth in property size and client base. From one humble factory and warehouse combined to a standalone factory and five separate warehouses!
We now regularly supply expertly tailored steel products to internal stores, heavy-duty contractors, hardware retailers, architects, engineers, the government, homeowners, and the rest of our 70-plus clients (many that are group companies with additional branches).
Due to our humungous growth, we are looking into ways to support local raw materials suppliers. This nurtures South African employment, entrepreneurship and, thus, the local economy.
